What's hot in 2014

Tartan

Born from UK street fashion, Tartan is the latest trend for men in 2014, not only in street wear but it's making it's prominent appearance in sharply suit wear and high fashion. Tartan or Check, however you may wish to refer to it as - is on trend!

The Under Cut:

The latest trend in men's hairstyle, The Undercut. Evolving from the previous hair trend examples such as the pompadour, or gadsby, the introduction of the undercut adds a slightly more tidier, sophisticated and of course sharp look. Other contributions to this hair trend is the fade and dare I say the Man Bun

Loafers

This trend is no longer reserved for satin robe wearing, cigar smoking rich old dudes. Wearing sockless loafers is the must do in 2014. The loafers can be worn dressed up with a smart sharp suit or dressed down with a pair of chinos or shorts. The brighter the loafer the trendier the look. Get your pair today!

Short Suits

Although I'm sure Arthur Galan designed a great designer short suit in 2012 ( yes I bought it and worked it out at the 2012 Melbourne cup Spring carnival) this appears to be a new trend for 2014. Who'd a thunk? Sic

Perhaps Australia or Melbourne was ahead if it's time. Can you be too fashion forward? In any case, I'll be bringing my AG tartan short suit out this summer for sure.

Top 10 Rules for being sharply suited

I read an article a few months ago about the unspoken suit rules every man should know. So that they don't remain unspoken, I thought it would be beneficial to bring you my own top 10 of those rules.

Employing these top 10 rules will help you to remain sharp, sophisticated and down right trendy when wearing suits.

When buying a suit off-the-rack, the most important thing is to ensure that the shoulders fit. Ill fitting suit jackets that sag below the top line of the shoulder is not going to look great nor sharp. Shoulders are the hardest to tailor, so mark sure they don't stick out or stick up.

The gap between the collar of your shirt and the jacket's lapels is a giveaway that you have an ill-fitting jacket.

9. Charcoal or Grey suits are more sharp than black. This is because greys and charcoals are more versatile and will look better with more colours. Not all men suit black either.

8. When wearing a 3 piece suit or just the waist coat with trousers, keep the bottom button of your waist coat unbuttoned. This provides a slightly more sharper look and fit and prevents bunching at the bottom.

7. Cuffs should be showing at least half an inch from the jacket sleeve. Not only will this show off your masculine jewellery you have such as cufflinks and watches, it provides a more balanced look by matching the amount of collar visible at the back of the neck.

6. Make sure your tie is darker than your dress shirt. This allows a balanced contrast and draws the eye in the V shape at the centre of your chest giving a slimmer sharper look.

5. The hem of your trouser should touch right at the top of your shoe. This provides a fashion forward, sharp look. If you are looking for a more conservative look, the trouser hem should cover the top of the shoe and parts of the laces.

Men's Runway at MBFWA - Starring Lupe Fiasco

Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Australia has come to an end and it produced a surprising runway on the final day when Lupe Fiasco modelled for Australian label Song for the Mute. Disappointingly this was the only pure men's runway showing which may explain why it was a full house and loaded with celebrities in the front row including Guy Sebastian.

Local designers Lyna Ty and Melvin Tanaya showcased their street style collection as part of the Harrolds Boutique show with Lupe their star model. Lupe Fiasco closed the show wearing a signature cocoon coat in pressed, waxed mohair.

Lupe has been friends with the designers for a few years now and often wears their designs. It appears he jumped at the chance to head to Australian Fashion week when asked to model in their collection.

Beside Instagram, Pinterest is my second addiction. It became one of my favorite places when I'm in search for inspiration. And today I wanted to share one really special board from my profile made with chic ladies, the coolest gang ever - La Parisienne!
Emmanuelle Alt, Geraldine Saglio and Capucine Safyurtlu are super stylish women. Their simplicity, confidence and attitude with Parisian charm were enough to make this signature look very popular.
And if you like them, here are some tips so you can easily copy their style! Most of their clothes are Isabel Marant, Balmain, A. Wang, Zadig and Voltaire etc. but you can find great similar pieces at Mango, Zara or H&M with much more affordable prices.

That Holiday Feeling

I personally think one of the best feelings in the world is looking forward to a holiday. Those weeks at work spent surreptitiously shopping for bikinis and wafer-thin dresses, researching restaurants, bars and beach reads, and trawling Pinterest for snaps of your chosen destination to get you even more excited. Or is that just me...

Well, I'm beginning to get that feeling right about now, with a break in the sun on the horizon in May. And, after a long old winter and some fairly big life changes, I'm more than ready for a few days horizontal somewhere warm. Can anyone guess where I'm going from the wishlist? 10 imaginary points to anyone that gets it.

Slide Weather

Thank you Venice for the blue-skies and warm sun that meant I could finally wear my beloved Isabel Marant slides (aside from shuffling around my flat that is). House slippers no longer, these guys are going to get some serious wear this Spring. Another great thing about this in-between time of year; coats over t-shirts. This camel coat that I've quite literally lived in over winter, feels somehow new again when loose and breezy over a simple, oversized men's tee.
